Vendor Feature- Lustrous Beauty Studio

We asked Kelly, the owner of Lustrous Beauty Studio, a few questions about her makeup artist business and she gave us some great information for our brides-to-be!

1) What made you become a makeup artist and what’s your favorite part about it?
As far as I can remember I've been doing makeup on myself and others. I used to have acne and had to get good at covering my own skin. After years worth of dermatology appointments with no resolve, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I attend Esthetician school in 2009. Not only did I clear my own skin, I also used my license along with my makeup talents to secure numerous positions in the makeup and skincare industry. My absolute favorite part of being a makeup artist is the reveal. I love showing people their transformation. The smiles, hugs and even tears that follow is the pinnacle of my career. I love enhancing the beauty that I see in others. From brides to models, the feeling never ceases and I'm so honored to be able to do this everyday!

2) What is the number one benefit of airbrushing versus doing foundation yourself?
Airbrush foundation creates a soft glow by allowing pigments to lay on top of the skin. This creates a soft focus and easily covers imperfections. The coverage is completely buildable and can range from dewy and fresh to heavier tattoo cover. Alternatively, traditional makeup applied with a brush pushes the product into the skin.

3)  What do you think will be a makeup trend in 2017?
In 2017 I am expecting to see a return of clean, glowing, natural skin. Thanks to Instagram, contouring has become so mainstream that I'm sure it will be here to stay, a natural look will be more trendy. Highlighting will still be 'in' and dewy skin will be sought after.

4) Do you have tips to share with brides on how to keep their makeup fresh for the entire wedding day?
There are 3 products that I recommend a bride have with her to stay looking fresh on her wedding day. These products are a setting spray, translucent powder, and blotting papers. Setting spray will not only lock down your makeup, but it can also help to prevent shine, especially if you get one that controls shine.

I suggest Urban Decay De-Slick or Makeup Forever- Mist & Fix. Secondly, a translucent powder will help not only absorb a bit of oil, but mattify instantly, and set your makeup. Two of my favorites are RCMA's No Color Powder and Makeup Forever HD Setting powder. Lastly, oil blotting papers are great to keep in your bridal essentials bag! Not only are the quick and easy to use, they work great. Just make sure to blot!

5) Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you like to do outside of work.
Outside of work you can find me spending time with my family which includes a new baby, two dogs and my husband! I love to be outdoors, kayaking, hiking, and up north on our boat. I'm also a bit of a science junkie and am always researching health and nutrition. I also try to catch up on sleep when I can because baby likes to party all night. :)
